Clothes and Accessories That Give Back

February 19, 2011

Giving to charity can be tough, especially if you are a college student with expenses.  For those of you who are interested in finding a way to give to charity without just letting go of your money, there are many products available that benefit charities when you buy.

1. TOMS

When you buy any one pair of TOMS shoes, TOMS donates a pair to a child in need.   They come in a variety of colors and styles for both men and women, including glitter!

2. FEED

FEED incorporates a set donation into the price of their products.  When you buy a bag, you are donating to help feed people around the world.  On the website, each bag is shown with an explanation of exactly where your donation will go and how much food it will provide to those in need.

3. (RED)

(RED) partners with many brands, such as GAP and Apple, to offer products for consumers where up to 50% of the revenue goes towards the Global Fund for HIV and AIDS in Africa.

Next time you are looking to buy something or give a gift, keep these ideas in mind.  Sometimes people appreciate a gift even more when they know they are helping others.

Do you know of any products that give back?

Thanks for writing about this! I work for a company called Uptown Liz, which was created in memory of the founder’s 28 year old sister, Liz, who died from breast cancer. Uptown Liz (www.uptownliz.com) promotes products from companies whose proceeds go to different charitable organizations. You can shop on this one-of-a-kind website by charitable cause or product category, knowing that every time you make a purchase you are making a difference. There are many great art, clothing, jewelry, house wares, beauty and eco-friendly products (just to name a few) that benefit charities all over the world.
